• People have rejected politics of violence

    first_imgThe Trinamool Congress made a clean sweep of the three civic bodies, including the high profile Bidhannagar-Rajarhat Municipal Corporation, the Asansol Municipal Corporation and the Bally-Howrah Municipal Corporation – the results for which were declared on Saturday.The victories reiterated the Trinamool Congress’ continuing hold over urban electorate. The scale and margin of the victories were some indication that the Opposition political space has shrunk to a great extent and the Trinamool Congress’s supremacy was still unchallenged – four and half years after it had come to power in 2011.  Also Read – Punjab on alert after release of excess water from Bhakra damSpeaking on Saturday’s victory, Education minister Partha Chatterjee said that the people of Bengal have at large reposed their faith in Trinamool Congress and have democratically rejected the politics of disruption, violence and bandhs. He added that the support for Mamata Banerjee is surging and the people have voted for development.Subrata Mukherjee, minister of Public Health and Engineering also termed Saturday’s victory as a historic one claiming that people have not forgotten the anarchy, violence and misrule that ran rampant in West Bengal for 34 years and this is how the people have replied back. He also said that there cannot be any politics without people and the opposition leaders are only seen in television studios rather than working for the people. However, that seems to be a distant dream now after repeated clean sweep victories by the Trinamool Congress. The BJP-led Centre, had on several occassions, tried to woo Kolkatans with Prime Minister Narendra Modi offering ‘laddoos’ but the sweet savouring people of West Bengal did not much like the offer and the latest poll victory has showed that clearly as the people of the state clearly rejected the BJP and once again made Trinamool Congress victorious.last_img
